This is a shot of the kind of crowd Shihad get whenevery they play. Regardless of what people say about whatever album they’re touring at the time, they always manage to get the crowd amped up and rocking every sing time. It’s a sign of a band with class.

Lambchop - Up With People (or, the one where with the video where Nixon sings and freaks me out a little bit)
Up With People and Grumpus, both off the album Nixon, got me way into Lambchop. For a while I pretty much only had Nixon, What Another Man Spills, and Tools in the Dryer on repeat.
Looking my last.fm stats, I haven’t listened to Lambchop so much over the last year. It’s time to remedy that.

I love this whole album.
What would have happened to rock if Robert Smith had killed himself instead of Ian Curtis? Would it be better on the whole, or worse, or exactly the sam
I’ve asked this question of people in real life and on the interweb quite a lot. Ewok’s reply is the typical response.
Almost everyone talks about how Joy Division hadn’t made it big enough to make a difference. Hardly anyone considers what rock music would be like if The Cure had just stopped a couple weeks after the release of Seventeen Seconds. NoPornography, no poppy-era Cure, no Fat Bob.
OK, Joy Division may not be a musical touchstone, but the Cure surely are. Ask anyone in their 30s to name a “goth” band and odds on they’ll say The Cure.
Just looking at my iTunes library I can count dozens of disparate bands that have either covered the Cure or have songs that are pretty much Cure tunes with different lyrics - Goodshirt, Ben Folds, Wilco to name three. They were a band of many moods. A band you grew up with, who had songs you loved even if you didn’t know it at the time.
So to answer the question, I think we’d be a lot worse off without The Cure.
Listenin’.
I’ve been playing The Queen Is Dead this a lot recently, and a live album by the Smiths called Rank. Morrissey really is a terrific lyricist. Bloody awful poetry it is not.
Graeme Downes did a stonkingly good version of “Two Fat Sisters” on the “God Save The Clean” compilation
Great mix on 8tracks: Country Fried
Jamie is editing photos from last night’s Tumblr Reads event, and I made this gif — I guess no one appreciates standing perfectly still anymore?

Thanks, Prime Minister. I was unaware of the existence of the Nobel Prize. Is there another sporting achievement to which you might compare it?...
